Remote Stays at Merlin Farm

A Quiet and Secluded Farm nestled in Countryside a short walk from Mawgan Porth Beach on the North Cornwall Coast

One thing for sure it is going to be a long and unpredictable few months, if not years ahead, so much so that many people will probably be desperate to get away from their homes for a change of scenery. It will probably take a long time for the fear of re-infection to go away and people will no doubt be wary about where they go on holiday in the future. Merlin Farm is a small private secluded site with just 6 self catering units each with private enclosed courtyards overlooking the rolling hills. There are no indoor communal areas so no-one has to have close contact with any other guests, you can be as sociable or unsociable as you wish.

There is a beautiful sandy beach within walking distance and a further 5 beaches within 5 miles of Merlin Farm as well as beautiful countryside & Coastal walks direct from the farm. There are lots of cycle trails close by. The Cornish Food Box Company can deliver Cornish groceries and put away in your cottage before arrival. It is possible to have meal deliveries to Merlin Farm and Spa Treatments can be carried out in the comfort of your cottage. Once you've exhausted the local area, there are many beautiful wide open spaces to explore a short drive away, like the Cheesewring and Roughtor on Bodmin Moor. Pack a picnic - there are some fabulous picnic spots in and around Cornwall.

Keeping the Children entertained

Children especially enjoy making sandcastles and rock pooling for hours on end whatever the weather. Bring waterproofs and wellies and check tide times to make sure you hit the beaches at low tide to access the best rock pools. We recently found an excellent rocky cove just a few miles from Merlin Farm called Porth Mear. It is a bit of a walk from the car park to the cove so may not be ideal for very young children.

Please don't rely on the internet to keep your children entertained, we do have wifi but it is not reliable enough for streaming movies due to the outdated infrastructure from the village to our rural location (this is something we are trying to get BT to improve!). EE offers a great 4G signal here should you have data packages with your mobile. We recommend downloading movies to devices prior to your stay. Print off these great free travel games from Mini Travellers to keep your little ones entertained on the journey and whilst on holiday. Check out their free beach game ideas too!

In an attempt to keep our younger guests safe and reduce risk we have decided to remove the children's play slide and toy boxes (please bring your own baby toys) and not carry out donkey grooming sessions, we apologise for any disappointment this may cause. Children can still pat the horse and donkey over the fence and feed the chickens (a jar of food is provided in the cottage).

Stay safe

During the Pandemic we kindly ask that you keep a respectful distance of other guests who may also be trying to isolate themselves from others, and that you keep up to date and follow the current government guidelines (such as frequent washing of hands). We will be taking extra measures in between guests such as disinfecting of all surfaces including door handles. We ourselves will be keeping a distance from guests but live onsite and can be contacted by phone/email.

We advise all guests take out travel insurance. If you are unable to come because of Coronavirus i.e due to travel restrictions or experiencing Coronavirus symptoms and your insurance does not cover you in this instance we will carry across any money paid to another booking within 12 months of the original holiday date.

If you have any other concerns please feel free to telephone or email me (Lucy).

Updated 02/4/20

The Government has urged people to stay at home and away from others

and to avoid non-essential travel in the UK:

"Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People should remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk."

We understand this to be relevant for some weeks.

All guests who were booked in up until 12th June have re-scheduled their stays until later in the year or for the same date next year.

Guests booked in after the 12th June who are concerned about coming are also being given the opportunity to re-schedule their holiday to a later date.

Guests who wish to cancel are requested to check their holiday insurance to see if they are covered. I'm afraid we are currently unable to offer refunds (as per our T&C's when booking) but instead are offering re-booking within 12 months of your original holiday date. If you would like to postpone your stay please first check our availability calendar (and rates) then email us with your booking number and the date you wish to change to. We will process these changes as soon as we can and on a first come first served basis and subject to availability. Alternatively we can issue a voucher credit for the amount paid to be used at a later date when making a new booking.

We would like to thank all our guests who are supporting us by

re-booking for later in the year or at a similar date next year which enables us to still pay our bills and they still get to have their holiday.

Stay safe everyone

Lucy and Darrel
