Remote Stays at Merlin Farm
A Quiet and Secluded Farm nestled in Countryside a short walk from Mawgan Porth Beach on the North Cornwall Coast
One thing for sure it is going to be a long and unpredictable few months, if not years ahead, so much so that many people will probably be desperate to get away from their homes for a change of scenery. It will probably take a long time for the fear of further peaks to go away and people will no doubt be wary about where they go on holiday in the future. Merlin Farm is a small private secluded site with just 6 self catering units each with private enclosed courtyards overlooking the rolling hills. There are no indoor communal areas so no-one has to have close contact with any other guests, which is essential whilst social distancing is in place and will be for some time.
There is a beautiful sandy beach within walking distance and a further 5 beaches within 5 miles of Merlin Farm as well as beautiful countryside & Coastal walks direct from the farm. There are lots of cycle trails close by. The Cornish Food Box Company can deliver Cornish groceries to your cottage. It is possible to have meal deliveries to Merlin Farm and Spa Treatments can be carried out in the comfort of your cottage. Once you've exhausted the local area, there are many beautiful wide open spaces to explore a short drive away, like the Cheesewring and Roughtor on Bodmin Moor. Pack a picnic - there are some fabulous picnic spots in and around Cornwall.
Booking in advance will be critical as there will be limited capacity for Activities and Restaurants and many take-away's need advance orders to allocate collection slots.
Keeping the Children entertained
Children especially enjoy making sandcastles and rock pooling for hours on end whatever the weather. Bring waterproofs and wellies and check tide times to make sure you hit the beaches at low tide to access the best rock pools. We recently found an excellent rocky cove just a few miles from Merlin Farm called Porth Mear. It is a bit of a walk from the car park to the cove so may not be ideal for very young children.
Please don't rely on the internet to keep your children entertained, we do have wifi but it is not reliable enough for streaming movies due to the outdated infrastructure from the village to our rural location (this is something we are trying to get BT to improve!). EE offers a great 4G signal here should you have data packages with your mobile. We recommend downloading movies to devices prior to your stay. Print off these great free travel games from Mini Travellers to keep your little ones entertained on the journey and whilst on holiday. Check out their free beach game ideas too!
During the pandemic, to accommodate a longer cleaning schedule and to give the properties a good airing in between guests we will have to extend our changeover times; Check in from 5pm (contact free) / Check out by 9am. You will not be able to access the site for any reason between these times on changeover days and no early arrivals are permitted.
We will be taking extra measures in between guests such as disinfecting of surfaces (where reasonable) paying particular attention to high touch surfaces such as door handles & light switches and using BS-EN 1276 or BS-EN 13697 compliant cleaning agents as required. Pillow protectors and mattress protectors will also be laundered between guests. A 100% guarantee cannot be made but we will do our best to reduce the risk to our guests.
The current Government advice is that used bed linen and towels represent a potential hazard to cleaning staff, therefore we are asking for your help by asking guests to strip their bed linen and place along with towels in to a laundry bag and leave windows open upon departure at the end of their stay. Full details will be supplied upon booking.
Hand held guest information folders are being replaced with downloadable files which we will forward to you before arrival.
We have removed the children's play slide and toy boxes (please bring your own baby toys) and we will not be carrying out donkey grooming sessions until further notice, we apologise for any disappointment this may cause. Children can still see the horse and donkey over the fence and feed the chickens.
During the Pandemic we kindly ask that you keep a minimum of 1m distance of other guests and that you keep up to date and follow the current government guidelines (such as frequent washing of hands).
We ourselves will be keeping a distance from guests but live onsite and can be contacted by phone/email.
